Rail Budget 2012-13 Highlights


On 14th March 2012, former Central Rail Minister Dinesh Trivedi projected the Rail Budget for the year 2012-13. This article is about the key highlights of Rail Budget 2012-13. Following are the key points of RailBudget 2012-13:
  • Increase in passenger fare
  • Lowest ticket and platform ticket will be Rs. 5/-
  • Display board facility in every train to inform next stop and the time of arrival
  • 321 escalators to be built in important stations; however in 2012-13, 50 escalators to be installed.
  • Catering order or Book a Meal through SMS or Emailing
  • Up-gradation of 929 stations as ‘Adarsh Station’
  • Special coach for physically handicapped in every mail and express trains; already 2100 coaches were manufactured
  • Rail-Bandhu Magazine facilitating in Rajadhani, Satabdi and Duranta Expresses
  • 75 new expresses, 21 passengers, 9 DMU and 8 EMU projection
  • Extension of 39 train routes
  • Integrated Security System in 202 railway stations
  • Importance of security system in every station
  • Implementation of Railway Safety Authority as a statutory regulatory body
  • Establishment projection of Rail-Road Grade Separation Corporation
  • Establishment projection of special team for modernization and funding for Indian Railways
  • Projection of 14 Lac Crore rupees to fulfill 202-Vision Document
  • Projection of more 5 Lac Crore rupees for Pradhanmantri Rail Vikash Yojana
  • Modernization of railway track, pole, signals, communication, station and transportation
