Why The ‘Dead Sea’ Is Called So And Salty Than The Oceans?

Dead Sea,
The Dead Sea’ is a salt lake, not a sea; however it called so and it is 8.6 times saltier than the oceans. The sea (lake) which situated next to Jordan, Israel and west bank is famous for various reasons; such as due to its saltiness (33.7% salinity), high density (of 1.240 kg/L), and several medical benefits. More than a million tourist visits every year to Israel, then to the Dead Sea.

The Dead Sea is called so because due to its excessive saltines, no animals, plants and living beings exist there and the rivers or water sources drive into the lake couldn’t get out; because there is no exit from it, it was locked with lands. Due to such issues the lake called as ‘Dead Sea’. However, it had many medicinal ingredients (minerals) which people used for cosmetics, fertilizers, body massaging etc.

The Dead Sea is much more salty than the oceans; the first reason is as there is no outlet or water exiting way. Whatever minerals flow from rivers and streams get stocks here and as it are situated in one of the hottest regions of the world, every day around 7 million tones of water evaporates, but minerals stay there, so it became too much salty than the others.

An interesting fact related to this place is, as the density of water is very high i.e. of 1.240 kg/L anything can flow on this; even a living person also. Here is the picture of a person who is floating on the Dead Sea as a boat.
