Top Five Tourist Attractions of Keiv, Ukraine

Kiev, the capital city of Ukraine is one of the largest cities in Europe with its prominent culture, education, science and industries expansions in the world. Kiev is one of the oldest cities in Eastern Europe which has number of historical and tourist destinations that attracts more than a million and half tourists ever year. The major tourist attractions of Kiev are World War II Museum, the monuments of Bogdan Khmelnytsky & Yaroslav the Wise, National Botanical Gardens, Andriyivskkyy Descent, famous Golden Gate, National Art Museum, National Historical Museum etc. In this article I’ve explained the top five tourist attractions of Kiev, Ukraine.

 

1. Kiev Pechersk Lavra

A famous historic Orthodox Christian Monastery founded in the year 1051, is a National Historic-Cultural Sanctuary of Ukraine and also a noted site under UNESCO World Heritage Sites. The Kiev Pechersk Lavra consist various museums, architectural monuments, church, and more than a hundred burials. Famous museums in the Lavra campus are Museum of Historical Treasures of Ukraine, Book and Print History Museum, Museum of Ukraine Folk Art, Theater and Film Art Museum etc.

 

2. Museum of the Great Patriotic War

The National Museum of the History of the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945 was established in the year 1981. The largest museum with more than three hundred thousand exhibits attracted more than twenty one million visitors till now. It is the most prominent tourist attraction of Kiev and Ukraine which the tourists should not miss to watch.

 

3. Saint Sophia Cathedral

The eleventh century cathedral is famous for its outstanding architecture. It is one of the most prominent historic landmarks of Kiev which is also listed under UNESCO World Heritage Sites. The cathedral complex now remains a museum of Ukraine’ Christianity, which was named one of the Seven Wonders of Ukraine consists several buildings such as Bell Tower, Metropolitan House, Refectory Church, Brotherhood building, Memorial Stela of Yaroslav’s Library and many more.

 

4. Golden Gates of Kiev

The major landmark of Kiev is now serves as a museum also with a small tourist information center in it. The eleventh century gates was first built by Yaroslav the Wise with some bronze monuments. Tourist usually visits this and spare time with some snacks and drinks nearby the gates.

 

5. The National Art Museum

Established in the year 1898, the museum was constructed by Vladislav Gorodetsky; which is collections of arts and antiquities. The museum has more than twenty thousand collections for art and antique lovers to watch. Its collections also traveled around the world to Canada, Netherlands, France and Denmark for international exhibitions. Most of the collections are paintings of Russian and Ukraine Artists such as Aleksandra Ekster, Mykola Pymonenko, David Burliuk and many others.

While in Kiev do not forget to go through the famous artistic street Andrew’s Descent and visit other prominent tourist destinations; such as Babi Yar, Chernobyl Museum, Independence Square, Giant Statue at Motherland Monument, Museum of One Street, Palace of Sports, National Botanical Garden etc.
