How safe are my smart phone contents?

The new generation smart phone or mobile applications like Facebook, Google, Twitter, Pandora, Netflix, Skype, WhatsApp, etc. are highly inflowing and exploiting by the mobile users. I’ve seen and encounter their extravagant features which really wonder; and no need to endure with note-books at all. However, I came to know the users tendency of practicing and utilizing those, which may causes a lot of hindrance concerning on security part of their contents, such as passwords, phonebooks, shared messages, photos & videos, other private/official applications (which are highly crucial), etc. How I am safe from these gadget applications? Don’t worry; just go through these five elements of protective tips.

The actual thing is day by day we people are in search for easy, free and fast services like data transfer, messaging, video callings, tracking, hacking, &c. With the help of androids and better iPhone like features we are getting them also; but in meanwhile or amid we forget to protect our vital information while in use.

1.     Not to ignore ‘terms & conditions’
First of all whenever an application is being downloaded on your phone, it asks some crucial information about the user; like name, address, date of birth, place, mobile no., email etc. which I think is an important factor to submit, unless we can’t access those. However, before continuing or loading the app the user must go through the ‘terms and conditions’thoroughly, not tediously; and then click on ‘Submit or OK or I Agree’.

2.   Keep private photos & documents locked
It is not a wonder or uneasy that we can keep and share our files (especially photographs & videos) with friends and users very easily. However, it is very crucial if you share the same things with strangers. Keep activate with some passwords or email/message notifications for those which are very important in Facebook or Google+ like open & free database platforms.

With Google, you can use Google Drive for keeping your secret or important files and folders up to 15GB. There is a sharing and non-sharing/partial sharing option in Google Drive, where you can choose the files which you want to share (only view or edit like options) or not to.

Similarly, through Google’s Picasa web application you can store unlimited photos with/without sharing option very securely. My point of saying is don’t upload and share your photos directly through Google+ or Google Photos. This is because, after uploading them you’ll be not sure which are shared and which not.

Many mobile apps permit photographs to be saved by third parties which may be used by some obsessive stalkers for their illegal or personal uses that create trouble. Therefore, better keep your photos locked and password protected in your external hard drives..

Ignore and never use auto upload option for photographs from your mobile or iPhone.

3.   Entering strangers within your social network
It is extremely vital and dangerous if you’re accepting some unknown or strangers into your social networking groups like Facebook, Google+, and Twitter etc. Particularly I am speaking to youngsters who accept some unknown people’s profiles after viewing their interest towards online meeting and interacting; must be avoid.

If somebody is sending request for friend making and you know the person well or little; at first check his/her profile, is he/she is connected with your other friends! If yes, then once ask your colleague is it the right profile of that person or fake one! Then you may proceed accordingly.

4.   Apps enabling GPRS and Internet; Good or Bad!
Nowadays, most of the telecom service providers (TSPs) giving free (or less chargeable) services to access social networking apps to their consumers; which is really a best way to get into there. However, the users must be aware of it that such kind of apps asks some vital information like user’s location that another GPRS tracker can easily find or locate the actual location and distance form a particular place where the user is. It is really good for the cyber polices to track and encounter the criminals; however not fit for the teenagers who use hobbies and dating like apps through GPRS enable mobiles.

5.    Which are potential threats?
Threats are the ghosts whom you can never see and/or never try to see also. Just go updating your mobile with valid and licensed anti-virus software and don’t ignore the software updates and warnings while using your app online or offline. And, yes, don’t forget the above mentioned keys as well as implementing very soon. You’re safe now.
