Obesity is not a disease; however it is
reason for 71 diseases. According to the World Health Organization overweight
ad obesity are defined as unusual or excessive fat growth that may spoil health.
Overweight and obesity, as well as their related non-infectious diseases, are
largely preventable. Supportive environments and communities are fundamental in
shaping people’s choices, making the healthier choice of foods and regular
physical activity the easiest choice and therefore preventing obesity. What
causes overweight? Know more here.
The
foremost cause of overweight is unbalanced nutrition in our food. Obesity causes due to the excess
of: sugar, salt, alcohol, tobacco, fats, chemicals, pesticides, artificial
colors, preservatives, air & water pollution and hormones. Similarly, there
are a lot of reasons behind obesity which causes due to deficiency of: protein, vegetable protein, vitamins, minerals,
micronutrients, fibre, amino acids, complex carbohydrates, botanical factors
and water.
The
second cause of overweight is due to light breakfast and heavy dinner. Due to modernization and lack of time and laziness most of the job
holders skip their breakfast or take light breakfast. When you skip breakfast,
blood sugar drops below the normal level, you experience cravings and a drop of
energy. You again revert to simple carbohydrates to achieve a quick surge of
blood sugar and to overcome hunger and drop of energy. Simple carbohydrates
will cause an immediate surge of blood sugar level and a substantial insulin
emission. The insulin removes sugar from blood turning its excess into fat.
Then this cycle repeats itself 2-3 more times during the day. The vicious
circle constitutes one of the major reasons for diabetes, high blood pressure
and extra weight.
According
to the World Health Organization: Obesity possesses
a major risk for serious diet-related non-communicable diseases. These health
consequences range from increased risk of premature death to serious chronic
conditions that reduce the overall quality of life and include:
- Cardiovascular diseases (mainly heart disease and stroke), which were the leading cause of death in 2012.
- Diabetes
- Musculoskeletal disorders (especially osteoarthritis – a highly disabling degenerative disease of the joints).
However, overweight is preventable.
