LGBT Events in Asia

LGBT Event and the first Asian gay pride parade Rainbow March was held in 1996 at Sapporo of Japan; however ‘Tokyo International Lesbian & Gay Film Festival’ occurring since 1992 at Japan. Another film festival on sexual minorities ‘Asian Queer Film Festival’ also occurs twice a year since 2007 at Japan.

Shanghai Pride is an annual gay pride held every year on June at Shanghai of China since 2009. The Hong Kong Pride is being conducted on the month of December since 2008 and the other related festivals of China are Beijing Queer Film Festival and Hong Kong Lesbian & Gay Film Festival.


In India, the Bengaluru Pride and Mumbai Queer Azadi March became famous promoting LBGT culture and activities in India. Other LGBT events in India are Delhi Queer Pride, Kolkata Pride, Chennai Pride and Bhubaneswar Pride; which occurs in the month of June every year.

Taiwan Pride held every year during September and October at Taipei of Taiwan, is one of the famous and largest gay pride events in Asian region. Last year on 2011 more than 50,000 gays and lesbians participated in the Taiwan pride parade. It also makes LGBT Civil Rights Movement Film Festival during the same period in Taipei.

Thailand’s Sunee Plaza Gay Festival is one among other LGBT events. Sunee Plaza is an area famous for gay nightlife; where more than 5 million visitors come across the world throughout the year. The festival occurs 15th of November every year at Pattaya of Thailand. Other pride events in Thailand are Pattaya Gay Festival, Bangkok together, Chiang Mai Pride and Phuket Pride.

In Philippines, the first LGBT parade started in the year 1994 on 25th Anniversary of Stonewall Riots. It was organized by Progressive Organization of Gays in the Philippines (ProGay Philippines) and Metropolitan Community Church (MCC) Manila.
